Innovation Franklin, in partnership with Auckland University of Technology (AUT) has launched the Innovation Franklin Mobile Innovation Lab, a purpose-built, transportable innovation hub designed to bring future-focused learning directly into schools across the Franklin region.
The Mobile Innovation Lab represents a significant step forward for local access to innovation, technology, and future career pathways. Housed within a 40‑foot, side‑opening modified container, the lab will travel between schools, community spaces, and events, offering hands‑on exposure to emerging technologies and real‑world applications across science, technology, engineering, and creativity.

Visitors can get hands-on with a range of interactive technologies, including:
- Virtual Reality experiences
- AI and computer vision
- Infrared technology
- Wildlife tracking and bioacoustic technology through Alato
- Counties Energy's interactive energy display
- Gallagher security technology
- Additional specialist technology and demonstrations through AUT and industry partners
Opening pathways for Franklin's young people

Technology is changing rapidly, and the skills young people need for the future are changing with it. The Mobile Innovation Lab helps bring those opportunities closer to home.
Rather than young people having to travel outside the region to experience cutting-edge technology, the Lab travels directly to Franklin schools, events and communities, creating opportunities for students to see, touch, test and interact with technology in a hands-on environment.
It is about more than technology. It is about helping young people understand what is possible, connecting learning with the real world and showing them the pathways that could lead to future study, careers, businesses and opportunities.
