In partnership with Counties Energy, Innovation Franklin is thrilled to invite Year 9 and 10 students in the Franklin area to apply for a $500 cash grant to turn their science project ideas into reality.
We’re looking for bold, creative proposals that push the boundaries in fields like technology, science, energy, digital innovation, cultural understanding, or engineering. This is your chance to think big, dream creatively, and show us what you’re capable of achieving.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Eligibility: Year 9 and 10 Students.
Submission deadline: Proposals must be submitted by 11 April, 2025 (last day of Term One) to info@innovationfranklin.org.nz. Further details can be seen in the T&C’s.
Notification: Selected projects will be notified by 28 April, 2025.
Grant use: Projects receiving the $500 grant must use the funds to bring their proposal to life.
Completion date: Final projects must be completed by 27 June, 2025 (end of Term Two).
Project winners: Winners to be announced 25 July, 2025.
Prizes: One overall winning project will receive a Trophy and a $600 cash prize. Prize vouchers will also be awarded to students who demonstrate innovative thinking.
Social media/website: Counties Energy and Innovation Franklin have the right to promote the recipient’s projects and participants materials and imagery (photo/video) across Counties Energy and Innovation Franklin’s communications and marketing channels including publications, events, communications and marketing materials and
more.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Proposals and projects will be evaluated based on the following:
Feasibility: Projects must be achievable within the given timeframe and budget, with realistic plans for materials and tools.
Scientific value: Projects should demonstrate a clear scientific concept or question, promoting deeper understanding.
Originality: We prioritize creative and unique solutions, encouraging students to think independently. Sustainability: Projects should consider environmental impacts, promoting the use of sustainable materials wherever possible.
Presentation: The project’s presentation should be clear, well organised, and engaging. Students should effectively communicate their ideas, processes, and outcomes, using visuals and demonstrations where appropriate to enhance their presentation.
