Every year, the Young Enterprise Scheme offers business students across New Zealand an immersive experience through their experiential program, where students establish and operate real businesses. Each YES company develops its own product or service and brings it to market.

Recently Innovation Franklin board member, Peter Fa’afiu, had the privilege of participating as a mentor in a speed coaching session with Year 13 Business students from Pukekohe High School. Joining him were Catherine Tafto from Loom Shared Space and Andrea Lim, a teaching mentor with the Young Enterprise Scheme.

During the session, the three mentors met individually with each YES Company to discuss their Lean Canvas (one-page business plan). They offered valuable mentorship advice to students who presented some interesting and unique ideas. Peter and the other mentors engaged in detailed discussions with each YES Company to explore their product concepts and address considerations for successful execution within their business model.

All the participating Year 13 students said they would refine their draft lean canvases to take into account the constructive feedback from the mentors. We wish them all the best in their future business studies.

A special thank you to Pukekohe High School, and particularly to Madhwan Naicker, the head of business studies, for inviting us to be part of their business journey.
