Recently, Mike Marr and Fran Oliver from Innovation Franklin, accompanied by Local Board member Logan Soole and Pukekohe Business Association manager Shawna Coleman visited Pukekohe Hill School. It was an honour to be invited to view the cardboard creations that a group of year five and six students had designed and built to represent ‘Franklin in the Future’.
There was everything from sky towers to solar panels which powered the city, pools, parks cafes and so much more. There were many robots in all shapes and sizes that have replaced teachers, staff at various businesses and robot pets that last forever but may need to be recharged here and there. A common theme included coffee shops (clearly, adults drink a lot of coffee in the eyes of children), McDonalds, bungy jumping and teleportation.
After listening to each group showcase their unique designs, Mike Marr awarded three prizes
Most Innovative design went to Zoe, Dhara and Zaveera whose city had some wonderful ideas. A hotel where planes can land on the roof, rooms that magically adjust and a garden that grows food instantly.
Blake, Jonathan, and Ariyan scored the "Most Eco-Friendly Town Award" for their solar-powered city. They even dreamed up a restaurant owned by Gordon Ramsay and a movie theater with free magic popcorn and ice cream!
The "Judges' Choice Award" went to Tristan, Cooper, Zeke, Alex, and Connor for their epic creation, featuring a sky tower bungy without ropes, a hover ambulance, and a gaming arena like Eden Park.
The visitors were so impressed with the creations but also with the passion and excitement that was exhibited in the children. Thank you for having us Pukekohe Hill School and we look forward to seeing more of what you come up with in the future!
