Managed by Connexis and hosted by Counties Energy this year, Annual Connection brought together electricity supply crews from across New Zealand to compete and showcase the specialist skills that keep our communities powered.
We were delighted to be invited to bring our Mobile Innovation Lab to Annual Connection 2026 at the Pukekohe A&P Showgrounds.
Over three days, we had the opportunity to share the lab with electricity industry professionals, local school students and members of the public, connecting people with the technology, innovation and possibilities shaping our future.
It was great to see people of all ages getting involved, asking questions and discovering something new.
One of the biggest hits was the Counties Energy power grid display, which challenges visitors to manage the electricity network without overloading it and causing power outages. It was a fun, interactive way to explore the complexities of managing an electricity grid and understand just how much thought and planning goes into keeping our towns powered.
Our new virtual reality (VR) headsets were another crowd favourite, giving visitors the chance to experience immersive technology and see how it can be used in different ways. It was exciting to see people trying it out for themselves and discovering just how far these tools have come.
The infrared camera also sparked plenty of interest, giving visitors a different perspective on the world around them by making heat visible. Alongside this, our Gallagher security technology and Alato display attracted attention and prompted some great conversations about how technology is being used across different industries.
We are incredibly grateful to Counties Energy for inviting us to be part of Annual Connection 2026 and for the wonderful hospitality shown to us throughout our time onsite.
Thank you also to everyone who came through the lab, tried out the technology, asked questions and took the time to learn something new. We loved seeing the enthusiasm, sharing conversations and watching people discover what was possible.
The Mobile Innovation Lab is all about creating opportunities for people to explore technology, discover new ideas and see and touch the future. Being part of events like Annual Connection helps us bring that experience to more of our community.
We look forward to continuing to connect Franklin with the technology, industries and opportunities shaping our future.
